What You Can Do to Help End Bullying

While bullying doesn’t cause suicide, a stressful environment and persistent, emotional victimization can increase a person’s risk of suicide. Together, we can create awareness about the dangers of bullying and give emotional support to those who may be contemplating suicide. If you or someone you know is in an emotional distress or suicidal crisis, please call the Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).

Watch a True Story of a Bullied Teen
Shania, a former varsity cheerleader, talks about the time she was afraid to go to school. Her story shows how reaching out for help and talking to a trusted adult can lighten depression.
The Lifeline Supports “Bully”
The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is proud to support “Bully,” the film that explores the lives of students who have experienced bullying, including two who took their own lives. Bullying creates a stressful environment for everyone involved. Ongoing, emotional abuse can increase a person’s risk for suicide. We hope this movie will bring attention to the dangers of bullying. If you or someone you know is in an emotional distress or suicidal crisis, please call the Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).
The Connection Between Bullying and Suicide PDF

When Tragedy Strikes Your School
Suicide in a school is tremendously sad, often unexpected, and can leave a community with many uncertainties about what to do next. This toolkit gives teachers and administrators practical tools and advice to help manage the situation in the aftermath of a suicide. The toolkit is available from SPRC’s online library. PDF

The Lifeline is featured in Marvel comic "Captain America: A Little Help"

"Super heroes fight a lot of battles, but there are few more important than combating suicide," said Tom Brevoort, Senior Vice-President of Publishing. "That’s why we're making Captain America: A Little Help available for free via our digital comics outlets. If even one person calls this number instead of doing something very tragic, we know that means we succeeded."

You can access the comic here.
